Getting Started

Through out my life I have been taking things apart and trying to get them to do things not originally intended. Many of my friends will attest that though they are not always the most ascetic of changes, they usually seem to work to my satisfaction.

Over the last 13 months I have taken a fancy to modifying my 300D. The reasons I use this somewhat outdated camera are simple:

The original digital rebel (EOS 300d) uses the same batteries as the 20d, 30d and 5d. (Not so with the XT or the Xti). So when you decided to upgrade to a higher-class camera, you can keep most of your accessories. This is helpful if you do an IR conversion and are want to carry around 2 bodies, like me.

Also, with the firmware hack available from the Russians, you can achieve almost all of the features found in the 10D.

Lastly and most importantly, they are cheap! You can find a working 300d on ebay for around $300 and a slightly broken one (search for eos “as is”) for less.

The canon service center is really cool about sending out replacement parts (even circuit boards and ribbon cables) provided that you do the research and provide them with good part numbers.

I present to you my journey through these adventures. I have tried to link all of the sites that I gathered information from before I started. I take no responsibility for anything! I am merely showing you what I have done.

Some of these adventures do not even have positive outcomes! Be sure to read to the end on each project before you attempt it yourself!

Enjoy.
